Magazine Cover

The project objective is to create an editorial illustration based on a current news topic, to be used by a major Canadian magazine, “The Walrus” for an upcoming cover.

The topic chosen is the “summer reading edition”. Included is a flower with the silhouette of a woman subtly worked into the stem and roots. She is out in the rain getting plenty of water and sunshine which ties itself into summer, gardens, and thunderstorms. The flower is depicted in bright colours to make it stand out on a shelf with other magazines. The title “Tend your Garden” also drives home the metaphor that “reading is to your mind what water is to a garden”.
